How to Keep Your Hairbrush Clean

You take the time and effort to wash your hair to get rid of the dirt and grease. After all, your hair is your crowning glory. You want to keep it lush, healthy, and clean. But did you know that dirt, microbes, and dirt can lurk in your hairbrush? Fortunately, cleaning your hairbrush is easy and doesn’t require many cleaning supplies.

How Often Should You Clean Your Hairbrush?

How frequently you should clean it depends on various factors, like how often you use it, your hairbrush type, and how often you use hair styling products. Generally, hairbrushes need some cleaning every 2 to 4 weeks.

If you use lots of hair products and brush your hair daily, you must clean it more regularly than someone who doesn’t. In addition, a quick rinse will be enough for hairbrushes with synthetic bristles so you can clean them weekly. Cleaning hairbrushes with natural bristles requires more attention, so you can do it every few weeks.

Ultimately, the appearance of your hairbrush is still the best indicator if it’s time to give it proper care. If it appears dusty and dirty, it’s time to clean it to ensure it doesn’t have a buildup of dirt and bacteria that could harm your crowning glory.

Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning Your Hairbrush

Gather these supplies first:

  • Shampoo
  • A toothbrush of a small brush
  • Tweezers
  • Container
  • Clean Towerl
  • Hairbrush

To get it nice and clean in just a few minutes, follow these simple steps:

Using the tweezers, remove all hair strands and other debris from the hairbrush. You might also need a pair of scissors to remove severely knotted hairs that are stuck on the bristles.

Fill the container with warm water and add a few drops of shampoo to it. Stir the water to make sure the suds appear.

Soak it in the shampoo solution. How long you must keep it soaked depends on how frequently you clean your hairbrush. If you clean your hairbrush every week, 5-10 minutes of soaking will do the job. If the hairbrush is very dirty, you need to keep it submerged in the shampoo solution for at least 30 minutes for a deeper clean. If your hairbrush’s handle is wood, dip the bristles in the water. Don’t soak the handle, as water could damage the wood.

After soaking, scrub off the remaining grease and dirt on the hairbrush using a toothbrush.

Once you’ve ensured the bristles are sparkly clean, rinse the hairbrush with water. Then, use the towel to pat it dry. Lay it on the towel with bristles down so that excess water will drip out. Give it a few minutes to air dry.

And voila! Your hairbrush is ready to work its wonders on your hair once again. A few minutes of cleaning will go a long way in ensuring you have healthy hair and scalp.
